SOLD $1.3 million
The Golden Touch: How DANRR Auto Body Restored a Legend
Danrr Auto Body is thrilled to share the incredible story of the Golden
Sahara II, a legendary custom car with a history as unique as its design. We
were honored to play a pivotal role in the vehicle's recent history, and
we're proud to have been a part of the journey that led to it selling for an
astonishing $1.3 million at a Mecum auction in Chicago.
The Golden
Sahara II, with its iconic glowing tires and futuristic design, is a
testament to the custom car era. Originally conceived by the legendary
George Barris and owned by Jim Street, the car was recently brought back to
life by the Klairmont Kollections in Chicago. It was during this restoration
that fate intervened. Just before the car's international debut, it suffered
significant damage in a transport accident.
This is where DANRR Auto
Body, led by Phil Marotta, stepped in. With just five days to repair the
damage before the car was due to be shipped to the Geneva International
Motor Show, our team put in long hours, working around the clock to
meticulously repair the body and get the car ready. Our dedication paid off,
and the Golden Sahara II made its stunning international debut on schedule.
Upon its return, we had the honor of performing the complete
re-restoration of the car, addressing every detail and returning it to its
former glory. Our son Nick Marotta, a passionate painter, meticulously
worked on the paint, ensuring the car's finish was absolutely flawless. The
entire team at DANRR Auto Body went above and beyond, demonstrating the
skill and dedication that defines our work.
The Golden Sahara II's
recent sale at auction for $1.3 million is a powerful validation of the
car's historical significance and the quality of the restoration work. It is
a moment of immense pride for our entire team to have contributed to the
legacy of this one-of-a-kind vehicle. This is more than a restoration story;
it's a testament to our commitment to perfection and a reflection of the
trust our clients place in us to handle projects of historical importance.
